It somehow didn't surprise Elsa that her words regarding loneliness resonated with the creature. She wished he would give a name... It felt rude to refer to him as a creature in her mind, when he was proving to be kind.
At his laugh, which was more friendly now compared to the sinister chuckle he'd given earlier, Elsa's smile widened. "Yes, just ice," she answered with a small laugh of her own.
He surprised her by darting out into the rain, returning quickly with some wood. Elsa eyed it, hoping her idea would work. She thought it best to try on one piece, instead of all of it. Picking up one of the smaller chunks, Elsa released a stream of magic into the wood, watching as it iced over. A second before she released the stream, the wood burst, shattering into chips. What had been the center was still intact, but the outer part, what had been wet, was in pieces.
"Well, it's a good thing we planned on burning it," she said, in an attempt at a joke. "I had hoped to freeze the water and then withdraw it from the wood, but I neglected to think about the fact that water expands as it freezes. Let me try..." She picked up another piece and tried feeding the ice magic into it with one hand, and pulling the ice out of it with the other. It took more concentration than she was used to, but this time she was left holding a dry piece of wood that was cracked. At least it was in one piece.
As Elsa moved onto the next piece, she said, "I was awake when I was brought here, though my transition was uncomfortable. A suffocating darkness surrounded me, and when I could see again I was in a jungle. I'm just grateful Anna was brought here at the same time..." Things would've gone poorly for Ursula if Anna hadn't been around... It would not have been intentional on Elsa's part, but a blizzard likely would've happened.

Beast shook the wood chips out of his mane as it exploded into fragments. He watched a bit more carefully this time as she tried again. When this one didn't shatter he smiled and picked it up, moving it to the pile as he took the two stones he'd found outside and chipping them together. Before he'd become a Beast he'd remembered going out in the woods to hunt with his father who'd taught him the basics of survival. It would have been easier with flint but he could manage just fine like this too.
"Anna?" He wondered if this might be the sister she had referred to before. "I was alone when I woke up. I just remember a very cold, empty feeling inside me as I lay there in some sort of nightmare." He explained, shivering as he remembered. "I've been trekking through those woods for days, never meeting anyone... except shadows." Flitting the stone together a few more times, Beast was proud when he saw the flurry of sparks fly off the smooth pieces and onto the chips of wood.
"I thought something was hunting me for a while.. I thought maybe you had been..." He trailed off and shook his head before looking toward Elsa. "You must think me quite terrible for trying to scare you away like that earlier..." He sighed and reached back to rub his neck. "It's just that I'm normally used to doing that without having to try."

At Anna's name, Elsa's smile lit up her face, unintentionally. It was her first emotional slip in a long time, but she didn't mind it. She was starting to trust the still-unnamed creature. "She's my sister," Elsa murmured.
The creature continued speaking, explaining his situation. Her smile faded, and she felt sorrow for him. To awake here, alone, seeing shadows... Elsa didn't want to imagine it.
She watched, a little in awe, as the creature started a fire with two rocks. She had no idea how it had worked, but it had.
"I did, at first, but now I see it was a form of defense, a way to protect yourself. I used to do that, too, protect myself by putting up a front. I ignored Anna for thirteen years. Our only contact was on Christmas mornings, she would send me a gift under my door."
Hesitating, she said, "I just don't understand why you did it..."

Beast listened as Elsa talked of Anna and wondered what it would have been like to have a sibling. His time in the castle was simply full of servants and absent-tee parents. He'd been able to make somewhat of a friend with one of the servants, the more lively of the bunch, Lumiere. He could tell the (now) candlestick anything and he wouldn't judge him.
"Why would you ignore her?" Beast asked in disbelief, still not fully understanding the ice girl before him. She'd mentioned something about nearly killing her and he wondered if maybe that had something to do with it. He couldn't be sure.
At her hesitation Beast bowed his head and thought hard about whether he ought to tell her about his curse. He hadn't shared it with anyone, not even Belle. Elsa, being so different as well, may be better able to understand where Beast was coming from. He sighed. "For almost my entire life I've been stuck behind castle walls, trapped in a curse given to me by a spited sorceress." He looked at Elsa, a mixture of bitterness and anger and sadness written over his face as he recalled his dilemma. "She turned me into this hideous creature and-and sometimes I feel like I'm becoming more and more like it as time goes by... I forget what it's like to be human."

Twining her fingers together, Elsa spoke softly. "I ignored her for her safety. I almost killed her when I was 8. It was an accident. And then I almost killed her again when I was 21. By saving me, she saved herself." It was the most she had talked about both accidents, ever, and she was telling a near-stranger.
Elsa listened politely to the creature's words, giving him an apologetic look when he finished speaking. Gently laying a hand on his arm--after his unaffected dash through the rain she figured her cold touch wouldn't bother him--she said, "I think you still know what it's like to be human. You wouldn't have let me stay if you had forgotten." Maybe it just didn't come natural to him anymore. "Do you have a name?" she finally asked him. Maybe if he could remember his name it might help...

Beast didn't know anything about the magic other than what he'd met from the sorceress but he was starting to think that maybe not all of them were as bad as the stories read. Giving her a gentle look, Beast let their eyes meet as he said. "I guess I'm not the only one who has trouble controlling themselves." He meant it as a joke which was odd since he rarely joked much anymore..
Her touch and words made him freeze and Beast couldn't help but feel warmth spread through him despite the cold and dampness. "It's easier to remember now when someone so kind hearted is here to remind me." He spoke solemnly, about to reach out himself but hesitated. When she asked for his name again Beast had to look deep inside himself to finally recall what it was. "Adam, my name is Adam."

Elsa hid a laugh behind her hand. "I'd like to think I can control my powers now, but as you saw earlier, if I'm startled its more difficult to hold on to." She still wouldn't admit that he had frightened her though. Conceal, don't feel was a mantra she had depended on in her youth, and it wasn't so easy to let go.
Elsa smiled at the creature again. She completely understood how having someone around could bring out your good side. She felt that Anna had done it for her...
He seemed to have to think about his name. A pang of sorrow passed through the queen, though she didn't show it. To forget your own name... "Adam," she murmured, affixing the name to his face, which she could now see clearly on the glow from the fire. "I like it."

"You mean like when you were startled from before." Beast teased, not forgetting how her power had frozen over his cheeks. When she said his name he could almost recall how his parents had used to say it to him when he was just a boy. It made him feel good and glad to hear it said again. It almost made him feel human.
As the silence settled between them, now more comfortable than before with the fire and ease of tension between them, Beast listened to the world around them. He could almost pretend like he was back in his castle until he heard a sharp noise from above. It almost sounded like someone crying. "Did you hear that?" Beast asked, his ears twitching as he turned his head to find a set of stairs going up to who knows where. He knew the building had more than one floor and couldn't help but wonder if maybe they weren't alone inside it like he'd thought they were...

Elsa hadn't expected him to tease her, and it caught her off guard. Her face flushed briefly. "I-- That's--" For the first thine in memory, Elsa was stumbling over words. Maybe it was because she wasn't used to being teased except by Anna.
Elsa's head jerked upward as well at the sound. "What was it?" she asked quietly. The way his ears moved, she suspected his hearing was superior to hers. She stood in a single, graceful movement, ready to accompany him if he was going to seek out the source.

Beast couldn't help but become amused at her fumbling. Had he made her do that? He might have to joke more often if that were the case, it was quite funny seeing her flushed.
Hearing the cry again with attentive ears, Beast rose and narrowed his eyes. "It sounds almost like.. crying?" Yes he was sure of it. He couldn't help but feel slightly unnerved, now who could that possibly be? He hadn't noticed anyone else's presence here but his own besides Elsa's. Perhaps he should go investigate.
"I'll go up and see what I can find." He began, but noticed her stand. "What are you doing? I can go by myself." He figured whatever it was he could handle, he was definitely big enough.

Elsa's experience with crying was limited, and buried under years of repression. So beyond Adam's statement of the obvious, Elsa couldn't discern anything from the noise.
"I have no doubt that you can handle things yourself, but I will still go with you, if I may." It was true that Adam would have many advantages over her, but a second set of eyes and ears couldn't hurt. Besides, if he got hurt, she would be able to help him if she were with him. "You are welcome to go first, if you'd like," she told him with a faint smile, holding a hand out at the stairs. "Be careful though, they don't look very sturdy..."

Beast saw that there was no arguing with her. Even though he was trying to be the gentleman, though she could probably keep her own in a fight if it were to come to that. Beast doubted there was anything to worry about, at least he hoped.
Glancing at the steps wearily, Beast moved with light feet as he started up the stairs, wincing as they creaked. "If I fall, don't laugh." He warned, taking the steps one at a time before heading up deeper into the house.
There was a single window that lined the hall as they got up the stairs, letting in some light despite the overcast skies outside. Beast peeked his head over the foot of the staircase, not seeing anything in the long narrow passage except dust particles. But wait, what was that? A shadow seemed to pass over the floor between two rooms! He looked at Elsa to see if she'd seen it to. Maybe they weren't so alone in this place.

Elsa knew that she wouldn't laugh if he fell. She would immediately help him in any way that she could. "I won't," she promised, following behind him. She was careful not to step on his tail.
She kept close enough to touch him, but she didn't. He seemed focused, and she didn't want to distract him unnecessarily.
Adam stopped at the top of the stairs, but Elsa couldn't see much of the hall past him. She was able to see a shadow move up the wall, and as Adam looked back at her, she caught his gaze. "Well, we can find out what's up there, or we can go back downstairs and run away as soon as the rain lets up," she told him quietly. She would be comfortable with either, as long as Adam was accompanying her.

Beast couldn't deny he was a little unhinged at the activity in the house but when he heard Elsa mention they could run away he shook his head. "And lose the house? Not happening. I'm sure it's just rats or something, an issue easily dealt with." He assured her, determination on his face as he made the rest of the way up the stair.
He looked back at her and tried to read her face, she didn't read to be scared but that didn't mean she wasn't. She was good at hiding her emotions, he gave her that. "If you're too afraid you can go downstairs. This will be over quickly." He smirked, assured of himself as he began to turn around only to find a spider dangling infront of his face.
"AHhh!!" He shrieked and swatted it away, jumping backwards as he covered his face. He hated spiders!!

"I could craft you a new shelter," Elsa muttered as Adam continued up the stairs.
Elsa raised an eyebrow as Adam let out a bellowing shriek. Peering around him, she spotted the spider and smiled. Lightly waving her hand, she picked the spider up on a chunk of ice and moved it out of the way. "Should I go first?" she asked sonically, both as a way to tease him for the spider and to answer his offer of going back downstairs. Knowing Anna was safe was enough for the queen; her fears were losing Anna, and losing control of her powers again, not spiders and shadows.
