Moana can be stubborn, once she puts her mind to something she'll do it no matter what. She's also very straight forward, courageous, adventurous, head strong, practically fearless. She has great pride in who she is, but also sometimes has self doubts. Seriousness is also another trait of her personality, and stands her ground as well as fights for those she loves.

Moana was born on the island of Motunui to the chief and his wife. Unlike the other children on the island, she stood out above the crowd. While the other children were scared by her grandmother's stories, Moana would always listen with a huge smile on her face. As a toddler and a curious nature, she wandered down to the beach. Saving a baby turtle from some nasty birds and helping it back into the ocean, she was glad it was safe. The ocean then parted and following a trail of pretty shells, Moana met the ocean who chose her to accept the heart of Te'Feti. When her father found her, she lost the heart but unknown to her was that her grandmother picked it up. 

As she grew older, her father and mother began to teach her the ways of becoming the next chief for their people. However she always tried to sneak away to the ocean, as she'd see her grandmother dancing on the shoreline. She'd try everything to sneak away but was always caught until one day she did sneak away and almost everyday after that until she was sixteen. Dancing with her grandmother near the shoreline. One day she took a boat out and tried to go past the reef but her boat capsized and she got caught in the undertow. When she returned to shore, Pua her pig was frightened of the water now because he almost drowned and Moana had hurt her foot. Her grandmother told her she wouldn't tell. 

Her father then scolded her later on, as her mother explained that her father had lost his friend when they tried to do what she did. Moana was also told that someday she would need to put her stone up on the mountain. Her grandmother showed her a secret cave where Moana found out that her people were, or had been voyagers. But when she told everyone her father shot the idea down saying it was too dangerous. They then found out Tama was dying. Moana was told that she was the one that was chosen and given the heart. She hesitated not wanting to leave but knew it was her duty to save her people and island. To find Maui. Her mother helped her, she then set out to find Maui and return the heart. 

Moana found Maui on an island, and after being trapped in a cave and thrown off the boat countless times he agreed to help her. They encountered evil coconuts and fought against Tamatoa to get back Maui's fishhook. After helping him control his shape shifting they went off to return the heart. Only to encounter Te'Ka. Beaten, Maui took off and Moana told the ocean to choose another. With self doubt she wanted to go home. However her grandmother was there to guide her, as well as the spirits of her people. She got back the heart and she along with Heihei went to battle Te'Ka again. Getting past the barrier but her boat got overturned. With help from Maui, she went to return the heart but found Te'Fiti gone. 

It was only when Moana noticed the spiral in the middle of Te'Ka's chest, did she realize that Te'Ka was Te'Fiti all along. Meeting with the lava demon head on, she returned the heart and Te'Fiti was restored. Moana said goodbye to Maui and returned to her island where everything was flourishing once more. Being now a master wayfinder after Maui's teachings, they brought the boats out and she led a new path for her people.
