Scar prowled silently along the shadows of the seemingly desolate city here, yet some still lived. The thing lion hadn't have a good meal since... well, ever. Tail swishing slightly as he stalked up upon his unsuspecting prey, a random gray fox pinning it with a quick pounce, quickly though unfortunately not before it yelled out in alarm, ending it with the throat-bite not minding the fact that it walked on two legs. He dug in tearing at the meat, he would have rather savored finally having a taste of fresh meat again. With a growl, he ate as quickly as he could before anyone came to investigate.

This new world had left Nala feeling confused and mesmerized. She'd never ventured further than the jungle in which she found Simba all those years ago. But now she found herself beyond the safe haven of the pridelands and into a cityscape in which she'd been trekking through. However her aimless wandering had taken a toll on her. Hunger made itself apparent from the bothersome gurgling sounds that emitted from her stomach. 'Food, food. Where to find food?'
Lifting her nose towards the sky, she inhaled deeply. Taking in the all to familiar and slightly worrisome scent of fresh blood nearby. The idea was tossed about in her mind. On one paw it could be an injured animal near death. A quick easy meal to sate her hunger. On the other it could be the remnants of someone picking themselves up after a bad fight. Most likely angry and on guard.
Deciding that it was best to investigate, the lioness prowled along the street, weaving slow through the cars to keep covered.

Unfortunately for the lioness, the cars gave away her position by being reflective. Nevermind the familiar scent of the lioness reaching his nostrils. It wasn't just any lioness. It was Nala. With a sly smirk, he picked up what remains of his meal, casually approaching her and dropping it in front of her paws. "You must be hungry, Nala. Eat quickly."
This happened to be their first... encounter, ever since Simba had taken the thrown. And well, this elder lion hoped to simply negotiate with the now-Queen. Perhaps, the stars for once where actually giving him a chance... Perhaps, with was a way to make amends, at least with her. Plus, she tended to be close with Simba, which could work in their favor...

Her reaction was an amalgamation of confusion and an ocean of disbelief. Standing before her, in the flesh, was Scar. Slayer of the old king and fallen, both literally and figuratively, matriarch of the pride lands. She drew her ears back and took two steps back, distancing herself from him and the delectable looking lump of fresh meat he'd dropped at his paws.
"You must be hungry, Nala. Eat quickly."
She peered up at him with questioning eyes, her blue clashing with his green.
"This must be a joke. My mind must be tricking me", She said in disbelief, still coming to terms ,"Starving actually.. but you grow tolerant of the emptiness when you have no choice. You wouldn't understand that, would you?" She spat bitterly, reminded of the many moons she spent hungry from lack of food as a child. The hyenas fat from wildebeest while the lionesses ate scraps.
"How can this be that you're alive?"

"Actually, quite the contrary dear Nala." He moved into light but for a moment, just to show her how starved and malnourished he himself was. "Secondly, you don't know the half of what I've been through when younger." His eyes narrowed ever so slightly, a slight snarl at recalling the past - before Simba.
Shaking it off, he looked the lioness straight in the eye. "Most hyena had followed the rules I set. Those that didn't were pockets of Rogue hyenas, and dealt with once caught. But, as we all know, the damage was done. By them..." That wasn't a lie, rogue hyena clans indeed were the ones to cause the famine.
The elder lion alertly looked around the surroundings, "I meant what I said by Eat Quickly" he could scent someone nearby. "Someone will be coming to investigate..." Points a paw at the meat "I'd rather us not to be caught, as they have means of tranquilizing us..." Honestly, he could answer her question of how he even was alive later, once they both were safe. Yes, he simply could have let Nala take the fall, but, in a way he still needed her, to talk with so he stayed.

"No amount of anguish can excuse what you've done. Actions speak louder than words Scar," Retorted the lioness, stepping forward and sighing a bit, "Nothing to be done about that now, I suppose. My scars have healed and if anything, age has humbled me. I take the positive in stride with the negative when it comes to your time as king."
Pausing after her statement Nala tasted the air in the direction in which Scar had been staring so adamantly. There was a foreign scent upon the wind that spread chills across her nape. She knelt down and suspiciously sniffed the meat, "For once we agree on something." Greedily, the lioness wolfed down the meat in just a few gulps, savoring the game-y tenderness.
"Thank you..", the lioness licked her mouth clean of any excess blood and flicked her tail, loping past Scar in the opposite direction of the stranger, "C'mon then."

"I... admit, that I've made some mistakes in the past." The elder lion follows her after a moment of lagging behind not because he wanted to but because his old battle wounds were acting up again. Still, he managed to catch up and keep pace with the lioness. "Nala, do you think... we could negotiate A... part of the land to live in, a hunting grounds... Food. Mainly food, as... hunting isn't as easy for me as it once was."
While he did gather injuries such as broken bones from his literal fall off the peak of Pride Rock, he was rather lucky that they weren't bad ones - such as misaligned. They'd heal over time with a splint-cast. This lion was quite used to pain of any sort.

As Scar joined her on the boulevard they were walking, she glanced curiously down at his frame taking note of each and every one of his acquired wounds. Even noticing a slightly awkward gait as he fell into pace next to her. Nala never really had been this close to Scar, so casually anyways. During his reign Sarafina, her mother, had kept her well away from him when she still very young and growing up. Afraid that he may kill her off when he decided he would try and sire cubs of his own. Such as were the old ways long before Mufasa's reign.
The only time she could personally recall was her 'call to arms' breaking point when the pride was starving, hyenas running rampant with no regard for life and he'd personally tried seducing her and claiming her as his queen.
Shivering slightly, Nala pushed those thoughts from her mind and back to the present. Scar seemed like he was attempting to turn over a new leaf and redeem what little was left of himself, albeit reluctantly she presumed. But Nala knew his manipulative, clever ways first hand and still had an air of caution around him. Despite that, she held the knowledge that he was no longer in his prime and she was a full-bodied adult lioness with power, capable of taking him down if need be.
"I... admit, that I've made some mistakes in the past. Nala, do you think... we could negotiate A... part of the land to live in, a hunting grounds... Food. Mainly food, as... hunting isn't as easy for me as it once was."
"Permit you usage of the pridelands?", Her younger self would've scoffed confidently, but she paused in her actions, considering her next words, "For all that you've done to the pride and the lands, Simba's banishment seems merciful enough. I used to believe in the saying 'Eye for an eye, a life for a life.' Luckily for you, I try to see the light in everyone, despite whom they're related to or what they might've done." She explained, referencing when she looked past Kovu's harsh outer appearance and rough upbringing to see the fine prince he truly was.
"You're alive, you're still kicking in spite of life beating you down and you look like you're attempting to atone for your crimes. Hear these words, I will consider that offer if you can prove that you've changed. But be warned, you won't just face my judgement but that of your nephew, my children and the entirety of the pridelands."

"Simba... may be a bit difficult to talk with, provided he even bothers to listen..." Still walking alongside her, "That's... why I'm asking you. Just a small spot, and I do promise to leave you guys alone during that time." He lowered his head, if one looked closely at his long tail it was crooked due to injuries. "You, your the closest to him."
It wasn't easy for this older lion to walk, his injuries still cause pain pangs at every pawstep. He still did his best though.
"I... wasn't in the right mind frame back... during my time..." Shaking his head, "Honestly, at some moments it felt... as if something was controlling me..." The lion actually sounded... depressed, with a hint of regret within his voice, true honesty was rare from this cat and yet he let Nala in on what had been bothering him. His gaze downcast with his head lowered, he slows his pace, hoping to at least not be alone as he needs a rest soon. He could go further if some makeshift splints were made...

Nala was taken aback at how forthright this lion she had only known as manipulative and dare she say, evil, was being. She frankly wasn't sure how to react to all of this. Cautious, distant, acknowledging, friendly.. what was she meant to do?
"We'll see." Was all the lioness could muster as she kept walking, eyes staring off into the distance as she kept leading them somewhere, anywhere. "I... wasn't in the right mind frame back... during my time... Honestly, at some moments it felt... as if something was controlling me..."
Those words reminded her of the long conversations her and Simba would have under the stars, contemplating what drove his uncle to the breaking point, to murdering his own brother and usurping a kingdom. The Great Kings of the past never bothered to answer those questions on the nights that Simba would look to them for guidance when he was still coming to terms with his scars and new role in life as a lover, a leader and now a father.
"There were rumors about you, you know. When you were.. king. I could never decipher which ones were true and which ones weren't. One thing they had in common theme they followed was one lined with hatred, jealousy and envy." She paused when she noticed him falling behind, "Let's find somewhere to rest and I want you to tell me. What made you like this?"

"Humor me" The elder lion said, referring to the mentioned rumors as he found a spot to rest. It certainly wasn't the nicest, or comfiest but it'll suffice for now. Maybe there was something around that they could scavenge for bedding and... other things. He himself couldn't do much digging, due to his injuries as he lay down on something fairly soft - a piece of clothing other beings would call it, he pulled out of a fairly beaten cardboard box. "Anyhow, I believe you have an idea of sibling rivalry with your cubs... Ours... wasn't much different..." He lowered his head again, referring to his bond with his brother. He wanted to know how close or how off the rumors were. "Do... you happen to know all the rumors? I wish to hear them; to tell which ones may have been close. Afterwards, I'll see what I can recall starting with my cubhood..." He gave a quiet, yet audible sigh. He listened quietly, as he thought back to those times; when he and Mufasa were just wee cubs. About toddler age, some would consider. It was unfortunate that most of his memories of that time were painful ones. Occasionally shaking his head to clear it to get to the rest of his memories...

Nala followed Scars moves and sat down on her haunches in the shade, stretching her limbs and shaking her pelt, "I'm a firsthand witness to the rivalry between my cubs but in the end, it works out. It may take them longer, they might brood and get hurt, but they learn from their experiences and grow." Says the lioness, smiling at the thought of her cubs.
"Do... you happen to know all the rumors? I wish to hear them; to tell which ones may have been close. Afterwards, I'll see what I can recall starting with my cubhood..."
"Not word for word but I do recall the gist of them. That you fought with your mother and father frequently, that you were very much a mother's boy", Nala smirked in amusement at the thought, imagining Scar hidden amongst the paws of the late queen Uru, "Other had said you betrayed your pride and befriended the hyenas, even though they fed you lies. I never did get confirmation of this from Sarabi or Sarafina, I was too young but I was told that you had been smitten with one of them. And the last one I can think of is apparently Uru was the one to give you your scar?"

"While, it was a family member certainly that had given me my scar... and the name Scar. My big brother. We were cubs then, it was during play... He took it a little too far..." Scar also smiled something of a smirk at Nala, "The rest is pretty on par, except for the part about the hyena..." The elder lion sighed.
"Mufasa was always the favored one, father... hadn't treated me well. Still, my brother tried to spend as much time with me as possible. Sure, we hard our sibling squabbles like all siblings do. Anyhow, the short of it is, one day when I was still a cub one of the Pride members tried to kill me. Who should come to the defenseless cub's rescue but hyena? Technically they saved me, and treated me as one of their own more than father ever did. Course, biased father appeared later and killed my friends..." The lion gave an annoyed look on recalling that event, a light snarl erupted from him. "Mother did her best, but father was getting to her. I got... unfairly banished simply for understanding their plight. In the end, the damage was already done... This was before I had obtained the Roar of the Elders... So, quite young still..."
He looked back at Nala, much of the innocence he held at youth vanished on witnessing death first-hand by his father as a wee cub. "I am uncertain what happened next within the Pride, yet Muffy - my nickname for my brother, managed to sneak out to visit me with mother's help. One day they hadn't come. It would be later that I learn mother fell ill, and father had disappeared... Mufasa and I found our Udugu on caring for mother, as young as we were... Hunting, gathering, keeping watch... It was later I'd gain the Roar, saving my bro's life... If you wish, I could go into more details about what happened exactly... Could start with us being troublesome toddlers." He gave a chuckle at that, remembering their antics in times gone by. "But even with the Guard and my friends, the treatment and trauma I faced as a cub had it's affect on me... Nightmares for one, and dreams corrupted into nightmares by a visitor or two..."
